Mandatory Drug License Requirements under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act

To operate legally, whether as an individual, corporate entity, or partnership firm, obtaining a valid Drug License from the concerned State Authorities (Drugs Control Department) is mandatory in India. The provisions for this requirement are outlined in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940 and its associated Rules of 1945.

Drug License Registration process in India ( General Instruction)

Here are the general instructions for the registration process of a Drug License in India:

  • Login ID and Password: The applicant must obtain a user ID and password by submitting a request letter in person along with firm details.
  • Online Application: Ensure that all information is accurately filled out for the respective application mentioned below before submitting it electronically. Incomplete applications may result in rejection, and fees paid will be forfeited.
  • Upload Documents: Scan all documents at 100 dpi in black and white and upload them using the provided ID and Password in the designated space.
  • Additional Documents: The licensing authority may request specific additional documents if necessary.
  • Physical Inspection: During the inspection, present all original documents to the inspector. They may request further relevant documents for your application.
  • Approval/Rejection: Following the approval or rejection of your application, you will receive an SMS notification. Within three days, print the approval/rejection from the 'Print License' option for new licenses or renewals, or click 'MISC approvals' for other approvals. Licenses/approvals will be provided with a valid e-signature and official seal.
  • Change in Constitution: If there are changes in the proprietor/partner, it will be considered a 'change in constitution,' requiring the applicant to obtain a fresh license.
  • Separate Password for Pharmacists: Registered Pharmacists must update their details separately by obtaining a separate password.
